AMERICAN STUDENTS LIVED TURKISH CULTURE
Seminars and activities are organized for two weeks in İzmir University of Economics that hosted the culture program organized each year by a university. American students ate "çiğ köfte" and danced the halay and Turkish students had the chance to learn a different culture in American night. İzmir University of Economics, Department of Economics instructor Benjamin Beranek was the team leader of the culture program in which seminars on cooperation, listening and English are organized and historical and cultural sites are visited. Turkish and American students visited Pamukkale, Çeşme and Efes and shared each other’s cultures.
Benjamin Beranek stated that the program was very beneficial for both Turkish and American students and said, “We know that the students coming from America and their families were concerned about Turkey. However, during the program they had the chance to know Turkey. They learned the Turkish food and Turkish traditions. Turkish students also learned American culture from American students. Next year, the program will be organized again in İzmir in a different university."
