SHE DESIGNED A SPECIAL PAN FOR HER MOTHER
İzmir University of Economics Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Industrial Design senior student Tuğçe Özkaner from Samsun designed a pan to make the famous food of Black Sea, fried anchovies and made it easier for her mother, who burned her hand every time she cooked it.
Tuğçe Özkaner stated that they were cooking fried anchovies twice each week and said, “I followed my mother in the kitchen for years. Fried anchovies are delicious but it is hard to cook it. It was the first thing that came into my mind as a graduation project. When I went to Samsun and told my idea to my mother, she encouraged me by saying that they would be sold out in Black Sea. I designed the product named Hamsea by making use of her practical ideas.”
Tuğçe Özkaner said that Hamsea was a double-sided pan adding, "The most important problem is dribbling and spilling oil while turning the pan. This both deforms the food and causes burns on hands and arms. While working on the design we made use of the mother of my friend who never cooked fried anchovies. We made her cook fried anchovies for at least 100 times and we recorded the process with a camera. We found out the problem. At the end of the project, even the people who have never cooked fried anchovies cooked it perfectly.”
Tuğçe Özkaner stated that after completing the design, they had hard times to start production. She said, “We could not find a place to make this design with thermal glass so we had it produced from cast. After obtaining patent with the name Hamsea, the product will definitely be made of thermal glass. We got the opinions of İzmir Hilton Hotel’s Chef Ahmet Yıldız during design and he said that after production, he would like to see the first Hamsea in his kitchen. I believe all the women will desire this product.”
