Second Foreign Language Opportunity for the Students
While the new students are enrolling at İzmir University of Economics, School of Foreign Languages set up a stand for each language in order for the students to make second foreign language choice. With 9 different foreign language opportunities, the instructors present the countries and their languages at the stands.
Together with compulsory English course, School of Foreign Languages added Chinese to second foreign language options, which are French, German, Greek, Italian, Russian, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese. School of Foreign Languages Director Asst. Prof. Evrim Üstünlüoğlu stated that Chinese, which had an important role in business life was a good alternative for the students and underlined that İzmir University of Economics was the only university in Aegean Region that offered Chinese.
Asst. Prof. Evrim Üstünlüoğlu said that second foreign language was very important not only in education but also in business life after graduation, she said, “The second foreign language courses given in undergraduate programs are equivalent to the “B1” level in European language criteria. It is very important to receive this certificate since in business life, language levels are documented only with internationally valid certificate exams. . It will enable them to be privileged in business life. With the stands we set up, we help the students to make the right preference that is related to their areas of study. The student who wants to choose Japanese receives the best information from the Japanese language instructor."
