GREAT OPENING IN THE HISTORICAL MOMENT
İzmir University of Economics attained the new building of Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, which attracts attention with its extraordinary architecture. The new building of Faculty of Fine Arts and Design opened in 20.10.2010, at 20.10 impressed the guests.
İzmir University of Economics Board of Trustees President Ekrem Demirtaş, İzmir University of Economics Rector Prof. Dr. Attila Sezgin, İzmir University of Economics Board of Trustees members, İzmir Chamber of Commerce President of the Assembly Necip Kalkan, Seferihisar Mayor Tunç Soyer, İzmir Chamber of Commerce Architects President Hasan Topal and many guests attended the opening ceremony of the FFAD building, which was started to be constructed 6 months ago.
Ekrem Demirtaş stated that they had set forth to create a crazy and extraordinary building and they had achieved it. Demirtaş also said that they never had a plan B and they worked very hard to complete the building in 6 months. "There are many heroes behind this opening today. Although we criticized much at the beginning, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu raised the precedent value to 1,5 from 1 and we did not want much more. With the precedent value decision, we gained the opportunity to construct this building. Since it was going to be the building of Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, we wanted to create a different and extraordinary building. I think we managed it.” said he.
President Demirtaş stated that İzmir needed symbol buildings, “We gave a different and extraordinary building to İzmir. İzmir needs buildings that can be the symbol of the city. We tried to do this. We tried to contribute as much as we can do. There are many nameless heroes. Let's make this faculty a place where children that add value to Turkey are raised.”
Rector Prof. Dr. Attila Sezgin stated that the building had a structure that appeal to art, design and senses, "I think that the faculty will be beneficial with its academicians, personnel, and students. A structure that serves for humanity has come up. We are very proud."
Following the speeches, the guests cut the ribbon at 20.10 and watched the mini fashion show prepared by Department of Fashion Design. There were different exhibitions, concerts, and events on the each floor of the building and the opening ceremony continued until 24.00.

13 thousand square meters indoor space, 8 ateliers, 17 studios (4 of them are fashion design studios), 11 laboratories, 2 amphitheatres (for 100 and for 125 people), 2 open air amphitheatres, 6 classrooms, 3 seminar rooms, 3 meeting rooms, 1 research center, 1 media room, 1 multifunctional hall, 1 exhibition hall, lounges and cafeteria.
