THE REPUBLIC PANEL BY BALÇOVA ROTARY
At the panel, arranged by Balçova Rotary Club and took place at Izmir University of Economics, ‘’Gençlerimiz Cumhuriyet’i Konusuyor’’ the process of republic since its establishment until today was debated.
2440. Rotary Governor Yesim Goney, journalist Umit Zileli and Nedim Atilla, Izmir University of Economics Community Volunteers Club members Özgün Engün, Selin Girgin, Müge Kılıç, Oguzhan Cacaner attended the panel. Having done the opening speech of the panel, Goney stated that Turkish rotarians being faithful to Ataturk’s principles and reforms they fight with the unemployment at the community. She also said ‘’ we organize vocational courses to create job opportunities for our young people and unemployed individuals. In last 10 years we have taught literacy to 80.000 individuals. We have carried clean water to villages and schools. Public health is among our priority goals. Rotary doesn’t interfere with politics, they are just soldiers of the republic to provide better life conditions, democracy, high moral values and equality.
Journalist Umit Zileli having stated that the Republic is a virtue, he said ‘’Mustafa Kemal Atatürk showed the success of fitting the enlightenment period up in10 years. Being such a genious Mustafa Kemal Ataturk knew that the shortest way of achieving the modernity was the Republic.’’ Nedim Atilla having stated that rotarian means to be virtuous,drew attention to that Rotarians have given educational support since their establishment. He also stated that the Republic is a social transformation to enlightenment.
