FIRST A PANEL, THEN AN EXHIBITION
A seminar titled as “Multiculturalism in Ottomans: Translator and the Role of the Translation” was held by the department of Translation and Interpreting, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, İzmir University of Economics.
The profession of translating in Ottomans was told in the seminar given by Prof. F. Sakine Eruz, the academic staff of the department of Translation Studies, the Faculty of Literature, İstanbul University. Emphasizing the fact that the translators in Ottomans were scholarly and cultivated people, Prof. Esen said: “Schools of language boys, opened by the Western governments thanks to the translators of western, turned into Academies of Eastern Sciences in West in time. As for the Ottoman translators, they were either a statesman or a writer. Merely all of them were very cultivated and scholarly people. We come across with the truth in many of the researches that Ottoman was a multicultural and multilingual government in every field.”
After seminar to which several academic staff and students from İzmir Universities attended, the exhibition titled as “Multiculturalism in Ottomans: Translator and the Role of the Translation” was opened. The exhibition will remain open in lounge of İzmir University of Economics till April, 25th.
