THE LEADERS OF SECTOR ARGUED TURKEY
Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences hosted prominent persons in the second International Entrepreneurship Congress.
Carlos Pinurea, The Private Sector and Development Director of Turkey in the World Bank, evaluated the growth of Turkey after crisis and emphasized the importance of SMEs.
In the opening speech of the congress, The Rector of Izmir University of Economics Attilla Sezgin, underlined the importance of universities in entrepreneurship. Sezgin said that “Our university gives importance on entrepreneurship. There is a course in the curriculum named as ‘Entrepreneurship Skills’. The Embriyonix and Creative Entrepreneurship Research and Application Center provide consultancy service to entrepreneurs. I think that this congress, in which the representatives of public and private sector come together, will be an important platform.”
Carlos Pinurea evaluated the growth of Turkey after crisis and emphasized the importance of SMEs. Pinurea stated that there is a great employment in Turkey. He said that “Turkey overcame the crisis in a rapid and successful way. Our observations show that growth can be faster because there is a great employment. SMEs are important. However, the growth of SMEs is very slow. We do not expect a rapid growth in a short time. Innovative and qualified labor force is very important in growth.”
TOSYOV Chairman of the Executive Board Yalçın Sönmez and First Legal Advisor of KOSGEB President Halil Özgökçe gave information about SMEs. The organizer of the congress, the Dean of Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Prof. Alev Katrinli reminded that the congress would continue with keynote speakers for three days.
