SOLUTIONS TO GLASS ARCHITECTURE BY TIM MACFARLANE
The conference, hosted by Izmir Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with Izmir University of Economics and Construction Industrial Centre, brought the architects and engineers together.
Worldwide known British Structural Engineer Tim Macfarlane has attended “Structural Solutions to Glass Architecture” themed conference, as guest speaker. Izmir Chamber of Commerce Vice Chairman of the Executive Board Akın Kazançoğlu, British Consul for İzmir Willy Buttigieg, Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Head of Department of Architecture Prof. Dr. Gülsüm Baydar, sector representatives and students have attended the conference which was organized by contributions of ERA Planning Architecture Consulting Co.Ltd.
Prof. Dr. Baydar has stated that Izmir University of Economics was honoured to have a worldwide known engineer Tim Macfarlane as a guest. She said, “It is very important for us to host this conference that was organized by Izmir Chamber of Commerce and Construction Industrial Centre. It is a great opportunity for our students to have knowledge of his opinions and experience.”
Tim Macfarlane has become well known throughout the world for his contributions to the development of glass engineering into architectural design applications. He has indicated that he was extremely pleased to have come to Izmir. MacFarlane has said, “I wanted to become architect very much, but became an engineer instead in order to travel around the world. I always wanted to visit Izmir. It is very nice to be here with this opportunity.” Tim Macfarlane talked about new glass production techniques and applications that enable glass to be used in architectural designs.
At the end of the conference, Izmir Chamber of Commerce Vice Chairman of the Executive Board Akın Kazançoğlu has presented a book to Tim Macfarlane.
