IZMIR MEETS WITH ITS CULTURAL HERITAGE
“Izmir Cultural Heritage Festival” which is going to be held for the first time this year, is going to meet with Izmir audience with a 3 day schedule full of rich activities. The festival, which will be organized by Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Communication on October 20-23, aims to recite the past to modern day cultural heritage of Izmir.
The cinema-city relation as part of Izmir and the status of Turkish-Greek co productions in film industry will be discussed at the festival which is organized with the supports of French Cultural Centre of Izmir, French Research Institute for Anatolia, International Thessaloniki Short Film Festival and Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. There will be film presentations and panels on these subjects throughout the festival. Cultural ties between Greece and Izmir will be highlighted in this first year of the festival. The films of young directors from Turkey and Greece will compete in the short film competition, “Film Market” which is organized by cooperation of International Thessaloniki Short Film Festival. The chair of the jury will be Tuğrul Eryılmaz and Dimitris Kernikos, who’s an International Thessaloniki Short Film Festival Programme Coordinator, will be among the jurors.
Films, which were shot in Izmir and have an important place in Turkish film history such as Golden Bear awarded “Susuz Yaz”, a production of Metin Erksan, and one of the cult films of Turkish film history, “Adı Vasfiye” will meet with the audience again at the festival. Academicians studying film theory will be attending the panels after the film presentations. Nezih Erdoğan, Defne Tüzün, Yeşim Özarslan and Yeşim Burul Seven are among the panelists. The films by Erden Kıral, “Vicdan” and by Inan Temelkuran, “Bornova, Bornova” which received so many awards in Antalya Altın Portakal Film Festival are among the films to be presented.
After the opening ceremony on Friday, October 21 at Izmir University of Economics, Maria Rita Epik will sing the Exchange song, both in Turkish and Greek which she wrote and composed herself. The exhibit, “Texier’s Izmir: Izmir and Surroundings in 19th Century Prints” organized by co-operation of French Research Institute of Anatolia and Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Communication will open on the same day. The exhibition can be visited between October 21-28 at Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Fine Arts and Design Multi-Purpose Hall.
