THE MATHEMATICANS CAME TOGETHER
Scientists from Turkey and all around the world, who are experts in their subjects, came together for the “5th Differential Equations and Applications” workshop organized by Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Mathematics.
In his opening speech, Dean of Faculty of Arts and Sciences Prof. Dr. İsmihan Bayramoğlu emphasized the importance of basic sciences as improvement of science and technology in Turkey. He stated that, especially young researchers should be supported and encouraged. More news on science should take place in the media and science should be promoted among new generations. More than 50 mathematicians from 22 national and international universities and institutions attended the workshop with 25 presentations. In addition to telling about the latest developments in the field, the experts also evaluated the young researchers’ studies at the workshop.
The Scientific Council members of the workshop, Prof. Dr. Metin Gürses of Bilkent University, Prof. Dr. A. Okay Çelebi of Yeditepe University, Prof. Dr. Varga Kalanatarov of Koç University, Prof. Dr. Hüsnü Ata Erbay of Işık University and Prof. Dr. Huseyin Şirin of Atılım University, made instructive suggestions to young researchers as they meticulously evaluated the presentations throughout the workshop.
At the end of the workshop, Prof. Dr. Metin Gürses and Prof. Dr. A. Okay Çelebi expressed their sincere thanks to Izmir University of Economics for organizing an efficient workshop.
Prof. Dr. Gürses stated that this workshop has been organized for ten years, and the last five years under the name of Differential Equations and Applications. After this year’s successful workshop, they will be glad if the workshop is organized by Izmir University of Economics, Department of Mathematics every two years as an international conference. After a 3 day intensive work program, the workshop came to an end with trips to Ephesus and Sirince.
