COMMON COURSE WITH USA ON THE INTERNET
Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of International Relations and European Union students take “Contemporary Issues in Turkish Politics” course together with Gettysburg College students in America.
The course, which has started in 2010-2011 academic year, is offered this year as well at the request of Gettysburg College. Students of both countries read the academic studies about the course with their teachers first. They get together through webcam in special classrooms once a month and discuss the studies and current updates online. They also do term papers together as study groups through the internet.
Prof. Dr. Filiz Başkan, Department of International Relations and European Union Faculty member who is in charge of the Turkish side of the course, has expressed the importance of this opportunity for the students and said, “Last semester two of our students had a chance to go to America and present their studies. At the end of the semester, we hosted two students from Gettysburg College. It is such an important opportunity to communicate with students from another part of the world and have different perspectives with the help of technology. Students also contribute to intercultural communication by getting to know another culture”.
Asst. Dr. Yasemin Akbaba is in charge of the Gettysburg College side of the course.
