DISTINCTION OF IUE AT ENTEPRENEURSHIP SUMMIT
Izmir University of Economics students are invited to Global Entrepreneurship Summit which will be hosted in Istanbul on December 3-6, under the coordination of the Prime Ministry. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will inaugurate the summit.
Youth Entrepreneurship Summit will be organized on December 3, 4 within the scope of Global Entrepreneurship Summit where U.S Vice President Joe Biden’s participation is also anticipated. IUE students are invited also to the summit with their projects where 150 participants from 10 different countries and 20 universities will participate. Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Industrial Design senior students E. Muhlise Fakıoğlu, Gizem Gündüz, M.Mert Önderoğlu, Merve Çopur, and Zikrullah İnce will make a presentation on “Disability Awareness”.
Department of Industrial Design students designed a shuttle vehicle for the walking disabled and they prepared for their presentation at the summit with the help of IUE Embryonix Unit. Prof. Dr. Tunçdan Baltacıoğlu, Vice Rector of Izmir University of economics said that only the universities with the entrepreneurship units and entrepreneurship projects are invited to the summit. He also said that, “Embryonix, which is one of the first entrepreneurship centres of Turkey, not only serves students but provides essential services for all entrepreneurs. Our students who are presenting at the summit received help within Embryonix. I believe our students will represent Izmir University of Economics successfully at the summit.”
Asst. Prof. Dr. Can Özcan, Department Head of Industrial Design, state that the students have been working on the project for approximately 1, 5 months. He said, “Students have based their project on the transportation problems of people with walking disabilities in their daily lives not only in Turkey but all around the world. The purpose of the project is to ease the transportation for these people thus enabling them to adapt to social life. It is very exciting that our students will make a presentation at a summit where only a limited number of students are invited.”
