QUESTION MARKS RAISED OVER ECONOMIC CRISIS IN EUROPE
Izmir University of Economics, European Union Research and Implementation Centre (EKOAB) held its first occasion of 2011-2012 academic year with participation of Sabancı University faculty member and Jean Monnet Chairman, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Evin. Prof. Dr. Evin has stated that the economic crisis in Europe has ceased expanding for a short term, and questions marks rose over regarding Turkey’s candidacy in EU.
Prof. Dr. Evin, has made predictions about the future of EU and answered questions on Turkey-European Union relations in his “European Union 2020” themed presentation. He has given detailed information about European Union process in the presentation where students as well as academicians have shown great interest in. He’s indicated that the crisis has raised questions over Turkey’s candidacy both in EU and in Turkey. He’s said that, “I don’t expect expansion as a short term goal in European Union because of the financial crisis they’re experiencing. The crisis has raised question marks over Turkey’s membership to EU on both parties. We can say that, EU will transform into a multi layered structure with different integration speeds under these circumstances.”
