Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Communication has brought high school students together at “Media Workshop”.
42 students from TED Aliağa, Karataş and Atakent Anatolian High Schools have attended the media workshop organized by Faculty of Communication for two days at the Faculty studios. The students have gotten firsthand experience of media world by attending four different workshops on news, short film, radio, and advertising, and by studying with Faculty Members of Communication.
At news studio, faculty members Hakan Tuncel and Burak Doğu; at short film studio, Andreas Treske and Serkan Şavk; at radio studio, Asst. Prof. Dr. Lyndon Way, and at public relations and advertising studio, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sema Misçi Kip and Burak Amirak have provided applied courses to students for two days. The whole purpose for News Workshop was to inform high school students who are interested in subjects such as media, journalism, cinema, and advertising, and to introduce these subjects at a university level. Students also had a chance to experience university life during these two day workshops.
Dean of Faculty of Communication Prof. Dr. Sevda Alankuş has said, “We wanted to give a break to high school students with these workshops, who are intensely studying for university exams, by offering them to do something they might enjoy. They had a firsthand experience of media world at our high tech studios. They enjoyed learning. They had a chance to experience campus life, to meet senior students and exquisite faculty members. We wanted to ease the process of choosing for their future professions. We plan to reach out to more high school students in Izmir in the future.”
