IUE STUDENTS SIMULATED LATVIA AT EU SESSIONS
Izmir University of Economics students, who attended Model EU simulation organized at Exeter University, England, simulated Latvia. Izmir University of Economics has been the only university to attend Model EU from Turkey.
Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of International Relations and EU students Gizem Alp, Efe Mehmet Carlık, Barış Can Başkan and Eralp Tüzüner played the roles of Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister, Internal Affairs Minister and Ambassador of Latvia. Department of International Relations and EU Lecturer Itır Bağdadi accompanied the students to the Model EU simulation as an academic consultant, where students from various European Universities played roles of government leaders. The economic crisis in Europe was the main topic at the simulation organized by SUNY New Paltz.
Izmir University of Economics students debated issues and voted on behalf of Latvia. Students have studied thoroughly in order to get to know Latvia before they went to England. They successfully represented Latvia, which has the highest rates of unemployment in Europe, at the polls.
Students also established diplomatic relations with other countries while working to prepare a proposal for an item to be discussed at the summit. SUNY New Paltz awarded all the participants with a certificate at the end of a 3 day summit.
