Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Arts and Design, Department of Fashion Design students, inspired by various subjects from Greek mythology to opera building, designed “Swan Lake” themed wedding dresses. The wedding dresses, exhibited at the 6th If Wedding- Wedding Dresses, Suits, and Evening Gowns Fair, drew lots of attention.
Department of Fashion Design junior students designed wedding dresses inspired by “Swan Lake” which is one of the current themes of 2012, within the scope of Fashion Design Studio: Collection II course. Course coordinator was faculty member Özge Dikkaya Göknur of Department of Fashion Design. Patterns and sewing of the designs used at the fair were handled at the modern patterns and sewing studio of the Faculty of Arts and Design’s new building.
Department Head of Fashion Design, Prof. Dr. Elvan Özkavruk Adanır stated that students were inspired by many different aspects while using swan lake theme. She said, “The students got inspired by many different aspects such as the meaning of swan in Greek mythology, use of swan theme in literature, physical appearance of swan, and opera building when designing the dresses. The outcome was very successful and interesting. We had a bigger stand at the fair this year. Guests admired the designs very much. The organization was also very motivating for students.”
Department of Fashion Design senior students made designs based on “dual life of the design” theme for two different markets. The designs made a strong statement on the podium as desirable clothes in fashion sector.
