IUE HOLDS THE CHAMPIONSHIP IN SAILING
Izmir University of Economics won the championship at the Campus Cup, a sailing race organized by Marmaris International Yacht Club (MIYC). IUE attended the race for the first time.
The IUE Yacht Club, which started its activities in second half of 2011-2012 academic year, reached a number of 120 members in no time. A 5-member team of IUE Yacht Club achieved a phenomenal success at the race in Marmaris where Bahçeşehir, Bilkent, Beykent, Sabancı, ITU, Istanbul, Kadir Has, Ege, Muğla, Piri Reis, Koç, Izmir Institute of High Technology, Bosphours, and Moscov State University also competed against each other. The IUE Yacht Club, which prepared for the race under the guidance of Club President Orsa Levent, and Vice President Umut Kombakçı, plans to organize training and activities in wind-surf, centreboard, and similar water sports in the future.
Club President Orsa Levent stated that their goal was to popularize sailing, and he said, “We have left the experienced teams behind even though we are a newly established club and became champions. This has greatly increased our motivation. Our purpose is to organize daily yacht trips and popularize sailing as a sport. We are planning to establish training and race teams in the future.”
The IUE Yacht Club members shared their success with Rector Prof. Dr. Tunçdan Baltacıoğlu. The Rector congratulated the team members and stated that they supported them.
