"THE MOST INNOVATIVE UNIVERSITY", IUE
Izmir University of Economics has successfully represented Turkey at the Grand Finals at Challenge: Future, one of the world’s most important university student organizations.
Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design graduate Ceren Türkmen earned the right to attend the Grand Finals with her project at the organization in Bled, Slovenia which is held by UNESCO. IUE graduate Ceren Türkmen and her team mates Öykü Cilasun and Beril Yazar made it to the first five in “The Most Innovative University” category with their project at the organization where universities from 38 countries including China, Russia, India, Venezuela, Rwanda, Canada, Sweden, and England attended.
Ceren Türkmen, who made recycling of both substances and humans as her project topic said that, “We presented an idea in my project where the homeless, the people who are ignored, would be brought back to life through shelter design that will be built by recycling which protects nature. This idea involves technical information about shelters built by recycling, how the homeless are brought back to the society, and how the process is financed. I am very happy to achieve this success on behalf of my University with this project.” IUE Embryoniks Director Taylan Demirkaya was the project consultant.
The Summit 2012 has been an organization where more than 23 thousand 500 young people from 213 countries developed one thousand 469 innovative ideas. The youth discussed unemployment crisis, social entrepreneurship, challenges in education and the role of business in society, all under the theme of this year’s Summit towards “Smart, Sustainable and Inclusive Future.” Many prestigious names and academicians such as futurist Joel A. Barker, business management strategist Deepa Prahalad, former OECD Secretary General Donald Johnston, Riccardo Illy, Sandi Češko, in addition to Slovenia President Dr. Danilo Türk attended the summit.
Damla Aktan, IUE MBA student and President of Challenge: Future Communities stated that young people from all around the world attended the summit with very different projects. She made a presentation of a research that involved the participation of all the communities worldwide. Aktan stated that the research involved the youth. She said, “We researched about the perception of the youth on the status of the World and countries in 2030, their visions and how they can contribute to those visions with their academic and professional backgrounds. We aimed a strategic planning for a more sustainable future. The report on this research has been presented at the summit. We will try to submit this report to the governments of the countries in the near future.”
