THE HEART OF SOCIAL MEDIA BEAT AT IZMIR
Turkey’s well-known brand managers talked about social media at the event titled, “Brand Management in the Civilization of Social Media” which was organized at Hilton Hotel by Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Communication.
400 people from all over Turkey attended the event organized by Izmir University of Economics, Department of Public Relations and Advertising students “Şapka Takımı” and supported by Vodafone, Sanajans, Dogo, and IAB Turkey. Social media agencies from various cities of Turkey, advertising agencies, academicians, and faculty of communication students showed great interest to the event.
The experts of social media and brand management talked about principles of successful brand management, where, branding through traditional methods of media is insufficient in today’s age of communication. Stunning data regarding social media usage was also shared at the event where Faculty of Communication students, advertisers, and social media users attended.
After the opening speeches of IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Tunçdan Baltacıoğlu, Dean of Faculty of Communication Prof. Dr. Sevda Alankuş, and Department Head of Public Relations and Advertising Asst. Prof. Dr. Ebru Uzunoğlu, Cüneyt Devrim of IAB Turkey presented his speech. While informing the participants about Social Media and its status in Turkey, Devrim indicated that the brands should not be resisting to social media, otherwise they would not be long lived. He pointed out that e-trade in Turkey was progressively increasing, and that Turkey was the second largest country in e-trade following China.
Erhan Acar, Hürriyet Internet Group Vice President, Emre Kanaat from Vodafone, Ali Güracar from 41? 29! Dijital Ajans, Olcay Sunucu; Moova Chairperson of the Executive Board, as well as Arda Erdik, Fatmagül Güzel, Irmak Emekdaş and Erdal Erdoğdu attended the event as guest speakers.
At the social media stand, tweets by the participants were projected to barcovision online. The successful campaigns and mistakes by the brands were shared with the participants by placing an emphasis on social media in brand management.
