25 YEARS OF PRIDE AND JOY
Izmir Chamber of Commerce (ITO) celebrated the 25th establishment anniversary of its Education and Health Foundation with a glorious reception.
The reception, which was held at Izmir University of Economics, brought members of Izmir Chamber of Commerce-Education and Health Foundation and famous Izmir people together. The old and new members, who contributed to the foundation, were awarded plaques at the ceremony that was hosted by Ekrem Demirtaş, ITO Chairman of the Executive Board of Education and Health Foundation. Members of the ITO Executive Board of Education and Health Foundation and Chairman Demirtaş, greeted the guests individually at the cocktail party before the reception.
Chairman Demirtaş, who presented the opening speech of the ceremony, stated that it was such an honourable day, and told the guests the establishment story of the foundation. He honoured the names of the members who contributed to the foundation, and the members who passed away one by one and commemorated them. Demirtaş reminded the guests of the accomplishments of the foundation within 25 years. He stated that the biggest accomplishment of Izmir Chamber of Commerce-Education and Health Foundation was Izmir University of Economics. He said, “Our biggest legacy and accomplishment is Izmir University of Economics. Izmir University of Economics is an institution that will educate generations. Children of our members, children of Izmir, and students from all around Turkey received education at this university in 12 years, and will continue to receive henceforward.”
He stated that Izmir University of Economics could not offer a special discount for its members up until now but an agreement was reached with YOK (Higher Education Council) and first degree relatives of the members would be offered 15 percent of discount starting from the new academic year. He also reminded that the Faculty of Medicine Hospital would be opening in a short time.
After Chairman Demirtaş’s speech, members of the ITO Executive Board of Education and Health Foundation, former chairmen, and employees were awarded plaques. Following the plaque ceremony was the folk dance performances by students that attracted great attention of the guests. The zeibek performance of the three students, two of whom are graduates, and the other one, the president of Izmir University of Economics Folk Dances Club since its establishment, caused emotional moments for the audience. Cengiz Ülken, President of the Alumni Association, Engin Kıbrıslı, member of the Executive Board of Alumni Association, and Ali Eren Aslan, President of the Folk Dances Club, presented a “Pocket Watch” to Chairman Ekrem Demirtaş as a gift.
Izmir University of Economics students holding Turkish flags in their hands entered the hall after the folk dances performance, and started to sing Izmir University of Economics march first, and then the Tenth year March of the Republic all together. Later, the famous couple, Ali-Aysun Kocatepe, and their orchestra took stage, and entertained the audience with an unforgettable night. Chairman Ekrem Demirtaş and Izmir University of Economics Rector Prof. Dr. Tunçdan Baltacıoğlu, presented Ali Kocatepe and Aysun Kocatepe a tie and a scarf, designed by Izmir University of Economics students.
The night of pride and joy ended with Chairman Ekrem Demirtaş and Rector Prof. Dr. Tunçdan Baltacıoğlu cutting the 25th Year anniversary cake together.
