GOLDEN CHILD OF DESIGN
Designer Deniz Karaşahin, graduate of Izmir University of Economics-Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Industrial Design, won the first prize for her Calliope record player, her dissertation project, at International A’ Design competition.
Deniz Karaşahin, who graduated from Izmir University of Economics-Department of Industrial Design in 2009, designed a record player as her dissertation project that year and turned that design into a product and a trademark. She won the 2013 'Golden' prize for her project at A’ Design Award competition, the most significant and comprehensive design competition of European Union. Deniz Karaşahin won the second prize last year with her design.
This year 3 thousand 49 projects from 66 countries competed at the competition. After she graduated, Deniz Karaşahin established her own design company and pursued her career. She carried out both her Paris and Izmir designs, and proved her success one more time with the prestigious award she received. Şahin, who also lectures at Izmir University of Economics- Department of Industrial Design, will exhibit her designs at Faculty of Fine Arts and Design building.
Asst. Prof. Dr. A. Can Özcan, Head of Department of Industrial Design, indicate that the department received many national and international awards up to the present. Özcan said, “The success of Deniz Karaşahin is important in many ways. A-Design is a world-wide prestigious design award and many recognized brands enter this competition and fail to succeed. Receiving the ‘Golden’ award especially is nothing to be underestimated. Even though it was designed as part of a course, turning the design into an international venture distinguishes its success from the others. Furthermore, Deniz Karaşahin’s record player, Calliope, is not only praised and admired because of its design features, but also with its high quality of sound. There are many articles on the sound quality of the product in the international media.”
