IUE STUDENTS SIMULATED PORTUGUESE GOVERNMENT
Izmir University of Economics-Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Political Science and International Relations students simulated Portuguese government at Model European Union (MEU) 2013 that took place at New York.
Gizem Özkan, Cem Kızıldağlı, Müge Oktar, and Halil Orkun Güven, students of Department of Political Science and International Relations, respectively simulated Portuguese Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Finance, and diplomat at EU sessions which was organized by State University of New York, New Paltz (SUNY New Paltz) at New York. Students from various universities across Europe simulated the leaders at Model European Union Simulation, where lecturer Itır Bağdadi also attended as an academic advisor. The economic crisis in Europe was the focus point at the meeting organized by SUNY New Paltz. Students of Izmir University of Economics attended the sessions and voted in favour of Portugal.
The students, who conducted an academic and current research on Portugal in order to get a better understanding before their journey to USA, successfully simulated their roles in voting process. Students also had a chance to establish diplomatic relations with other member countries, and conducted lobbying for their own designs they supported. All of the participating delegations were awarded participation certificates by SUNY New Paltz at the end of 3-day MEU session.
