IUE SENT ITS STUDENTS OFF TO BUSINESS WORLD
Fatma Canan Yaranoğlu, top student of the University who graduated from Department of Business Administration, attached a star on the commemorative symbolic log with Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, and IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Tunçdan Baltacıoğlu. Veli Coşkun and Gizem Alp, respectively the second highest and third highest ranked students, were also presented their diplomas and plaques by Demirtaş and Baltacıoğlu. The top student Yaranoğlu stated that she felt honoured to be starting to work at such a prestigious institution the next day after the graduation ceremony.
Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, stated that all of the students were exemplary students and their families should be proud of them. Demirtaş said, “I have a tradition of offering a job to the top student of the University. She will report to work tomorrow. We are all very proud of her”.
‘We are raising independent individuals’
IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Tunçdan Baltacıoğlu said that they sent the newly graduates off to the professional life where they could display the knowledge and skills they gained at IUE. Baltacıoğlu also stated that they raised the number of faculties up to 9 with the addition of Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine. He said, “The number of faculties reached up to 9. We’ve established Department of Civil Engineering. Elderly Care, Medical Documentation and Secretariat Programs of Vocational School of Health Services will be accepting students for the first time in the new academic year. There is no stopping for us. We are working hard for new occupations and for our students with a bright future ahead of them”.
Baltacıoğlu indicated that they raised entrepreneur students, and IUE was the only foundation university from Aegean Region in the index where Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology announced the most innovative and entrepreneur 50 universities in Turkey. He also said that IUE ranked in 5th place in terms of “innovation and entrepreneurship culture”, and took place among the first 10 foundation universities across Turkey. Baltacıoğlu went on to say:
“The main purpose of the education IUE offers is to raise creative students who can display independent and critical thinking skills, and have a well-respected status in society. We aim to equip the individuals with a habit of mind that will enable them going after the knowledge needed for a lifelong period. Our education programs are intended for this purpose, and raising competitive graduates, who can speak at least two foreign languages at an advanced level, raises us to a different position at university league”.
Prof. Dr. Baltacıoğlu stated that the students understood the real meaning of not only “being a university student” but also “being an independent individual” during the education they received at IUE. He said, “It makes me very proud to see that our students are self-confident individuals who stand up for the freedom of thought of others that do not think like themselves, and while doing all this, they get inspired by the principles and reforms of Ataturk, and follow the paths of wisdom and science”.
IUE Alumni Association gets new members
Cengiz Ülken, Chairman of IUE Alumni Association, said, “Students receiving their diplomas today will be referred as graduates from now on. You are all welcome to Izmir University of Economics Alumni Association. Unity and solidarity is our special power that will enlighten our path from now on. There is no magical wand to climb the stairs of success. The process begins with crawling, and the education you receive will combine with your skills and let you walk, and run eventually. The warranty of a bright future of Turkey is the graduates of Izmir University of Economics”.

Fatma Canan Yaranoğlu, top student of the University from Department of Business Administration mentioned that she would start working after the graduation ceremony. She said:
“No success is accidental. I strongly believe that we should try to appreciate every second we spend with our loved ones. Therefore, I insisted on getting my university education in Izmir. I was very lucky to have found such a high quality university. I spent 5 fabulous years with my family having a wonderful education. I can proudly say that Izmir University of Economics exceeded in meeting my expectations”.
While some of the students took the stage with Turkish flags in their hands, students of Department of Culinary Arts and Management got on the stage wearing their toques and holding pots and pans to receive their diplomas.
