FLOATING CRIB
Ahmet Yazıcı, who graduated from Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Industrial Design, designed a product which he called “NAVI” as his senior project. NAVI is a crib that provides the comfort of mothers’ womb for the new-borns. Yazıcı’s design also attracted the attention of TUSIAD (Turkish Industrialists and Businessmen Association). The floating crib NAVI, made it to the finals at “Bu Gençlikte İş Var” Competition organized by TUSIAD by leaving more than 100 projects behind.
The floating crib will bring an end to sleepless nights
Yazıcı stated that he adored children and he completed his internship at a company that produced baby products. He said, “Babies find comfort and warmth in their mothers’ wombs. The sleep pattern both for babies and parents is one of the most important concerns after the birth. A new-born may get into a sleep pattern as short as 6 weeks with a comfortable environment. Therefore, I designed a crib that eases the transition period for the baby.”
Floating Babies
Yazıcı indicated that the crib in water would allow easy movements for the baby, thus making the baby feel more secure. He said babies made a fuss due to lack of sleep and affected the quality of life of the whole family negatively. Yazıcı said:
“Especially, having to get up at night time to take care of the baby is very exhausting for the parents. I developed a product that would imitate the environment where babies were floating in their mothers’ wombs. During this period, senses are very important for babies since they do not have visual competency yet. The product allows the babies to move with their senses, as it prepares them to fall asleep without the assistance of their parents.”
