IUE DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS DRAWS ATENTIONS WITH ITS ACHIEVEMENTS
Izmir University of Economics Applied Mathematics and Statistics Ph.D. Program produced another graduate. Sinan Kapçak, Ph.D. student in Applied Mathematics and Statistics Program completed his thesis defence and decided to continue his career overseas.
Kapçak, who stated that his thesis would be used in biological control area, said, “My thesis was about biomathematics. We studied the mathematical model of the parasite-host (whitefly) relationship between Encarsia Formosa. I started my doctoral studies in 2009. I chose the department because of its strong academic staff and extensive fields of study. The fact that the University offered scholarship and opportunities to study abroad was very important for me.”
Kapçak, who completed his thesis under the advisory of lecturers Prof. Dr. Ünal Ufuktepe and Prof. Dr. Saber Elaydi of IUE Department of Mathematics, stated that he would continue his studies on Biomathematics, Dynamic Systems, and Mathematical Modelling. “I was invited by Illinois State University,USA to do my post-doctoral researches. I got a similar invitation from a university in Brazil as well. However, I will most probably start working as an assistant professor at one of the American universities in Oman or Saudi Arabia,” said Kapçak.
