TURKISH LITERATURE BECOMES “ANGLICIZED” WITH THE DISTINCTION OF IUE

Dungan, who has translated the works of authors and poets such as Hasan Ali Toptaş, Ataol Behramoğlu, Murathan Mungan, Murat Gülsoy, Behçet Çelik, Ahmet Büke, Saba Altınsay, Gül İrepoğlu, Sezer Ayvaz, Mine Söğüt, Müge İplikçi that lately affected the Turkish literature tremendously, said, “It makes me happy to translate the multi structure of Turkish literature into another language. We experience this richness while we transfer the cultural components.”

Nilgün Dungan stated that she could hardly wait to attend the workshop on behalf of Izmir University of Economics which will be conducted in September where, the translators meet celebrated writers and poets to discuss and interact. Dungan pointed out the importance of Turkish language being rich in vocabulary and terminology, and added that it became clearer during translating. She said she was working on the novel “Civan” by Müge İplikçi lately. Dungan said:

 “When I am finally done with my daily chores and sit down to translate, I can honestly say that it is the “best time of the day” for me. It gives me pleasure to translate the chapters, poems, novels, literary texts of Turkish literature. I teach literary translation at the University. Turkish is a very resourceful language. We hold discussions during class which makes it more interactive for students. We play word games in Turkish. I am looking for different ways to relay this richness. I am also supported by my foreign national family members while I am doing my work.”
