THE JOURNEY TO WORLD FLAVOURS BEGINS AT IUE
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Culinary Arts and Management is getting ready to train the future chefs who can bring their imagination to their cooking after learning the exquisite flavours of Turkish and world cuisine. The prospective students will start their education under the guidance of famous chefs after an aptitude test.
The deadline for pre-registrations is August 12. The first of the two-step exam will be conducted on August 13, where students will be assessed on their skills. After the written exam, students will be interviewed on August 14. The results will be announced on August 15, and registrations will take place on August 16 – 17. 54 students will be admitted to the department which trains young people that will present their artful flavours to the guests at many restaurants across the world and Turkey. 5 out of 54 of these students will have full, another 5 will have 50%, and 4 students will have 25% scholarships.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Nilgün Gürkaynak, Director of IUE School of Applied Management Sciences, stated that Department of Culinary Arts and Management aimed to train chefs and prospective chefs who had good command of worldwide cuisine culture. Gürkaynak also mentioned that the graduates would be employed at tourism and accommodation sectors, and that the education they provided had a quality of improving the skills of the students. Gürkaynak stated the following:
“We aim to train individuals who will be equipped with theoretical and practical information on culinary arts. The first two years of a four year education focus on business administration and management. Students also take courses on accommodation industry during this time and have sectorial information. The third and fourth years, they get to practice what they learn. During this time, students have hands-on training on famous world cuisines in addition to theoretical foundation of culinary arts. Later, they get to do their internship at Michelin starred restaurants.”
