NEW ACADEMIC STRUCTURE AT IUE: A NEW FUTURE

Izmir University of Economics, with its new vision, welcomes the youth who steps into the future business world. With the registration period that will begin on September 2, the students will get together with the faculty members more often at the University that will have a tremendous role in shaping their future.
The students will get a chance to use length of courses and materials more efficiently in the new system, where 3-hour blocks that result in loss of concentration are eliminated. Students will learn the meaning of ‘what does not change is the will to change’ approach through experience at IUE, which draws attention with its contemporary, continuously updated course contents that are based on taking the needs of future semesters into consideration.  

IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Tunçdan Baltacıoğlu pointed out that it was not possible for youth, who was getting ready to enter the business world, to compete with course notes and book contents only. Baltacıoğlu stated, “This era that we live in now,       the ‘internet age’, enables easy access to most information. In this case, individual’s competency to use the information appropriately comes to forefront. IUE academic staff will be sharing significant part of their time with the students. They prepared an instruction program that involves projects, hands-on trainings, and real life applications, case studies, which will improve their competency and guide them.”  

Prof. Dr. Baltacıoğlu mentioned that the courses were designed to allow students to meet with faculty members twice a week, and that the 3-hour blocks, which was part of classical education, no longer existed in the new system that involved interactive and participative education model. The Rector stated that they would facilitate an education model where students learned their professions through personalized methods that suited them the best. Prof. Dr. Baltacıoğlu, who indicated that the main purpose of universities was to equip the students with professional skills regarding their studies, pointed out that the instruction programs at IUE were contemporary, continuously updated, and based on taking the needs of future semesters into consideration. Prof. Dr. Baltacıoğlu said, “Our graduates enter life equipped with competitive knowledge in their respective field and self-confidence. The content of course notes or books alone covering all the details of business life, or promising a successful career, are clearly not possible.  Knowledge accumulation of the students is also important. Individuals’ point of view about life, their satisfaction out of life, work, and environment has a direct effect on their success at business life as well as at personal life. A wide variety of elective courses on arts, humanities, natural sciences, biology, social sciences, etc. have been prepared that will contribute to personal development of the students.  We equip our students with skills which allow them to follow and interpret developments taking place worldwide and in their immediate surroundings. Students, who will register beginning from September 2, will step into a new life with our renewed academic education program.”
