DREAMS COME TO LIFE THROUGH DESIGN
Every girl wants to wear her dream wedding gown one day. But sometimes her body type or the colour of her skin does not allow this dream to come true. A young designer in Izmir, set out to make the dreams of young girls come true, and established her own brand. Yeliz Cengiz, a gradute of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Department of Fashion and Textile Design, shares the dreams of brides-to-be with her own brand she established in Alsancak.
Cengiz, who believes that, “A person should wear what they feel they look best in”, states she makes her designs after making a connection with bride-to-be, and goes shopping to Kemeraltı with bride-to-be and her family. Cengiz said that during the fittings she used American cloth (type of waterproofed cotton cloth) and the design fitted better. She said she focused on the details, and she did the embroidery herself. Cengiz also said that her customers’ happiness was very important for her, and she did not leave the brides-to-be alone on their special day and she helped them get dressed.
The brides-to-be should come to me at least 6 months before…
Cengiz, who stated that she wanted to increase her publicity in Izmir by building a strong brand, said, “The time I spend with brides-to-be allows me to get to know them better and help them reveal their dreams. Therefore, I recommend they come to me at least 6 months prior to the wedding date. It is even better if we start working a year before. We go shopping for fabrics and materials together in the streets of Kemeraltı. This helps me to know them better and makes me witness their most special moments, so I can make their dreams come true.”
Yeliz Cengiz designs for whole family
Cengiz indicated that she not only designed for the bride-to-be, but for the other members of the family as well. Sometimes the mother-in-law or sisters-in-law all together wear her brand attires at the wedding. Yeliz Cengiz stated she also designed special hats.

Cengiz said that her education she received at Izmir University of Economics opened new doors for her career, and she was happy to be recognized through her designs. Yeliz Cengiz said:
“I was taught the importance of showcasing and how to display it during my education. People reach me after seeing my showcase. I see the outcomes of unique and good quality of education I received at IUE. I even had customers from Kuwait. Also, many brides-to-be from Denizli, Muğla, Akhisar, and so on, admire my designs and come to me. This increases my creativity even more.”
