IUE WILL DISCUSS THE “MEDIA”!
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) will be ‘the place’ for media and communication. The first time organization, “Media Days”, by IUE Media Club, will take place on October 8-10, 2013 at Izmir University of Economics. 52 expert speakers will attend the organization at IUE Conference Hall to discuss the past, present, and future of Turkish media.
The organization will feature remarking subjects as “Communication and Media Ethics”, “Hate Speech in Media”, “The Role of Woman in Media”, and “Violence and Freedom of Speech in Media”.
IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Tunçdan Baltacıoğlu will be the moderator for the “Communication and Media Ethics” titled panel at the organization where media ethics and status of Turkish media in social media will be discussed. The opening speeches will be delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Yeşim Kaptan, Vice Dean of IUE Faculty of Communication, and Çağrı Öner, President of IUE Media on October 8, at 12.00. Following the opening speeches, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tezcan Durna from Ankara University, Chief Editor Rober Koptaş of Agos Newspaper, Haluk Kalafat, Editor of BİANET, and Yazgülü Aldoğan, journalist from Posta Newspaper will attend the first panel, as guest speakers, moderated by Rector Prof. Dr. Tunçdan Baltacıoğlu.
The second panel will take place at 13.40 – 15.40, and cover “Hate Speech in Media”. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ülkü Doğanay from Ankara University, Prof. Dr. Melek Göregenli from Ege University, Cengiz Algan from The Association for Social Change, and Demet Yanardağ from Siyah Pembe Üçgen will attend the panel, as guest speakers, moderated by Berkant Çağlar, President of IUE Equal Platform.
The third panel, titled “Violence and Freedom of Speech in Media” will take place at 16.00 – 17.30, and will be moderated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Yeşim Kaptan, Vice Dean of IUE Faculty of Communication. Rahmi Yıldırım from Uğur Mumcu Foundation, Kadir Kemaloğlu, President of The Association of Turkish Photo Reporters Izmir Branch, Coşkun Üsterci from Turkish Human Rights Foundation, and Cameraman Cüneyt Ünal will attend as guest speakers.
The second day of the event will start on October 9 at 11.00 with “Economic Process in Media” titled panel. The panel will be moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ebru Uzunoğlu, Head of IUE Department of Public Relations and Advertising, and Burak Amirak, IUE Lecturer, and Hakkı Sal from Reklam Merkezi will attend as guest speakers.
"The Role of Woman in Media” titled panel will take place at 12.30 – 14.00. Atilla Sertel, Chairman of Turkish Federation of Journalists and Izmir Association of Journalists, Asst. Prof. Dr. Aysun Akan, Lecturer at IUE Department of Cinema and Digital Media, Prof. Dr. Çiler Dursun, Head of Department of Journalism, Ankara University, Columnist Ayçe Dikmen of Hürriyet Ege, and Journalist Bilge Egemen will attend as guest speakers.
Cengiz Ünsal, Broadcast Manager, Radyo Mydonose & Metro FM, and Ekim Baykara from Joy FM will be attending the “New Age Radio Broadcasting and Digital Broadcast” titled panel at 14.15 – 15.00. Kaan Çaydamlı and Mete Avunduk of Kaybedenler Kulübü will meet with the audience at 15.15 – 16.00. “Social Media and Activism” titled panel will take place at 16.10 – 17.30 and Asst. Prof. Dr. Zafer Yörük from IUE and Ötekilerin Postası,Kamera Sokak, and Naber Medya will attend.
On the last day of the event, October 10, “New Media Activism and Digital Media” titled panel will begin at 11.00. IUE Lecturer Altuğ Akın, Emrah Zıraman from Dokuz Eylül University, and Sarphan Uzunoğlu from Kadir Has University will attend as guest speakers. Following the “City and Media” titled panel with participants Ayşe Çavdar and Halil Türkden, “Sports in Media” will be discussed by Melih Gümüşbıçak from Lig TV, Barış Kuyucu from Al Jazeera, Asst. Prof. Dr. Itır Erhart from Bilgi University, and Ömer Saraç from Media Department of Turkish National Olympics Committee.
At 15.10 – 16.00 “Independent Cinema” will be discussed by Mustafa Kenan Aybastı, Renan Bilek, and Cansu Fırıncı. Suavi and Nazım Alpman will attend the “Art and Documentary in Media” titled panel as guest speakers.
