HEROINES ARE AT THE NATIVE LAND OF SILK!
Izmirian academicians got inspired by tales and designed heroines’ silk gowns. The exhibition, co-organized by Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, is open for visitors at Merinos Textile Industry Museum until November 30. Lecturers of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Department of Fashion and Textile Design moved the dreamy gowns of heroines to Bursa, the native land of silk.
Prof. Dr. Elvan Özkavruk Adanır, IUE Head of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, and lecturers Özge Dikkaya Göknur, Seda Kuleli, and Duygu Kocabaş Atılgan, combined silk with the gowns of story heroines at the “Gowns for Fictional Women” titled exhibition. The academicians, who got inspired by Oğuz Yorgancıoğlu’s book titled, “Stories 2- Compilations from Turkish Cypriot Folklore”, customized the gowns of heroines in stories to today’s world; the gowns were sewn and dyed at IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design.
Prof. Dr. Elvan Özkavruk Adanır stated that the fictional heroines in the stories had tough lives, and they used their imaginations to design gowns unique to these heroines. Prof. Dr. Adanır also stated that she was very impressed with the fact that the heroines overcame any kind of problem by using their wit and imagination and managed to turn a new page and make it a happy life. She said, “Through our designs, we tried to answer the question of what they would wear if they were alive today. Our exhibition is meeting with the audience at Bursa, one of the most significant centres of silk and textile. The dreamy gowns, inspired by heroines, spring to life”.
