IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS WILL TRAIN ‘ARBITRATORS’
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Law has been authorized by the Ministry of Justice to train arbitrators especially to resolve commercial disputes. Disputes between parties will be resolved by ‘arbitrators’ trained at IUE Faculty of Law; the burdens of the courtrooms will be reduced.
The Ministry sent a statement to the Dean’s Office, Faculty of Law, Izmir University of Economics, stating that IUE was registered in ‘Educational Institutions Registry’ for 3 years, pursuant to article 23 of the Law on Mediation in Civil Disputes (Law No.6325) and article 28 of the regulation of the same law. So, IUE Faculty of Law will be training arbitrators who are dedicated to resolve the disputes between the parties.
Prof. Dr. Huriye Kubilay, Dean of IUE Faculty of Law, pointed out that arbitrators were well-educated individuals who used systematic techniques in order to allow parties to come up with their own solutions. She said, “Arbitrators are specialized, neutral, independent third parties who aim to bring the parties together to make them understand each other. We will be conducting arbitration training for 3 years within the body of Faculty of Law. We strongly believe that, following this education, those who are trained as arbitrators will minimize the commercial disputes, which is a heavy burden on our justice system.”
Prof. Dr. Kubilay, who indicated that arbitration process began when the parties reached out to the arbitrator before filing a lawsuit, said that those, who would receive training on arbitration, needed to meet the requirements specified by law. She stated the following:
“The law defines arbitration training as a training that is received after graduating from faculty of law which includes basic information on conducting arbitration as well as communication techniques, negotiation and dispute resolution methods, behaviour psychology, and other relevant theoretical and practical information, and aims to equip the trainees with knowledge and skills required to perform the profession. We are waiting for lawyers who would like to receive arbitration training at Izmir University of Economics. Interested parties may contact IUE Faculty of Law”.
