‘MATH AT A MUSEUM’

Children and youth learn “math” by touching. Those, who are not good with numbers and formulas, learn by experiencing many concepts such as binary number system, golden ratio, Pythagorean theorem, chaos theory at almost 140 different stations at “Tales Mathematics Museum”’ in Aydın founded by Alp Ayaydın, graduate of IUE Department of Public Relations and Advertising.   
Ayaydın reported that a great majority in our country did not favor math however math was a big part of our everyday lives. He said, “We don’t know when math will come handy. We did not want math to be an abstract concept, we wanted it to become something more concrete, and most importantly we want to popularize it.”
Apaydın stated that they established the first math museum in Turkey, and that all the stations in the museum were local production that allowed interactive courses. Children and youth are taught math by the experts at stations on Fibonacci Numbers, Pi Number, Sam Loyd Puzzle, Impossible Triangle, Four-Color Theorem, Penrose Tribar, Mirror-Angle Relation, Symmetry, Ames Room, Parabola, Cycloid, Square Wheel, Arch and Mimar Sinan’s Bridge, Da Vinci’s Bridge, Graph Theory, Pick’s Theorem, Gauss Method, Simple Harmonic Series. Apaydın said, “We are using a classroom free, wall free education model. We’ve been in touch with international mathematics museums. Mathematics Consultant Ahmet Akyol and Museum Manager Gizem Aksoy are informing our children and youth thanks to the math museum”.
‘Investing In Future Science’
Apaydın pointed that he wanted to pave the way for future scientists with the education he received at Izmir University of Economics, and that the museum was open at 10.00 – 17.00, and they would continue to take steps into science.
