STUDENTS WILL CREATE SUPER HEROES
Students will create their own super heroes which will bring goodness and kindness against evil, violence, and environmental pollution. Secondary education students will create heroes to help humanity at the “4th Superheroes Saving the World Design Contest”, organized by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design.
Students in Izmir will come up with solutions for local and global problems at the contest organized by IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, IUE Design Research and Application Centre (EKOTAM) with the support of Izmir Provincial Directorate of National Education. Asst. Prof. Dr. Can Özcan, Head of IUE Department of Industrial Design, gave information about the contest and said that they aimed to make students use their creativity and engage them in all kinds of visual, spatial design processes. The youth approaches current problems with different perspectives though their design, stated Özcan. He said, "A super hero can be defined as a character dedicated to protect the society and ethical values of the society. Most of the superheroes possess the skills of flying, super human muscle power, speed, ability to control basic elements, and transforming. Science and technology play an important role in the struggle of super heroes. Our students use their imagination to create super heroes.”
Asst. Prof. Dr. Can Özcan said that students created special designed costumes and symbols, and created different equipment for their super heroes. He said that the contest allows them to make a reference to the problems. Asst. Prof. Dr. Can Özcan reported that the deadline for applications would be May 11, 2016 and the results would be announced on May 13, 2016. The winner of the contest would be granted 3 gold coins, the second winner would be granted 2 gold coins, and the third winner would be granted 1 gold coin. Özcan indicated that the students should fill out an application form available at www.ieu.edu.tr address to enter the contest.
