PRODUCTIVE SOLUTIONS IN LOGISTICS

Students developed projects for university-industry collaboration, came up with solution recommendations for logistic concerns of companies as part of the innovative projects program held by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Business, Department of Logistics Management. Students designed warehouse design, social media analysis, fleet size profiling, logistics process analysis and improvement for companies Arkas, Delphi, Türk Migros, Whirlpool, Tuborg, TPI, Havi Lojistik, and N11.com.

Students presented the projects they developed for companies throughout the year at the “9^th University - Industry Innovative Collaboration in Logistics Projects” event. Students also participated in “project presentation” and “poster presentation” competitions. Tolga Irmak, Oğulcan Onat Dergin, Büşra Emek, Mert Hasgülşendir, Dilara Parlak, and Gözde Gökçe came in first place in both categories with their ''Improvement of Material Flow from Warehouses to Production Line'' titled project they prepared for TPI Composites Inc. The project, developed under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhittin Hakan Demir and Asst. Prof. Dr. Qing Lu, both lecturers from IUE Department of Logistics Management, helped improve the material flow. With the help of the project, stock ratio of the company decreased 95%, and cost of diesel fuel and forklift decreased 82%.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgür Özpeynirci, Head of IUE Department of Logistics Management, gave information about the event and said that students offered new designs for companies as part of the university-industry collaboration. “Our logistics department students offered solution recommendations to companies regarding logistics issues. They worked on redesigning of company warehouses, improving materials management throughout the year. They met with companies and redesigned the warehouses, improved operator efficiency based on a time study. This way, they determined the production flow. They brought down the cost by decreasing the operator use capacity as a result of production flow. Total of 94 projects were successfully developed for 60 different companies as part of the event being held for 9 years. 10% of our graduates are employed at the companies they prepared projects for,” said Özpeynirci.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özpeynirci said that “Digital Supply Chains” titled panel was held with the participation of Necmi Kahraman from Ay Marka, Fatih Kılınç from Ford Otosan, Murat Boğ from Ekol Lojistik, Necmettin Başol from PepsCo, Yılmaz Kekeç from Tchibo, and Burak Kandemir from Oracle.
