GRADUATION FASHION SHOW 2018
Seniors of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), completed their education journey with a graduation fashion show.
Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, Burak Sertbaş, President of Aegean Ready-Made Clothing Exporters Association, Özlem Kaya, Member of Executive Board of Fashion Designers Association, IUE Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar and Prof. Dr. Filiz Başkan, Prof. Dr. Ender Yazgan Bulgun, Dean of IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Prof. Dr. Elvan Özkavruk Adanır, Head of IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design, famous Fashion Designer Zuhal Yorgancıoğlu, Members of IUE Board of Trustees, and guests attended the event that took place at Campus Park of Izmir University of Economics.
President Demirtaş and the guests visited the graduation exhibition of students from departments of Industrial Design, Visual Communication Design, Architecture, Interior Architecture and Environmental Design before the fashion show started. Prof. Dr. Ender Yazgan Bulgun, Dean of IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, pointed that the opening of the recreational area, which was landscaped by Izmir University of Economics, was celebrated with the graduation fashion show. The Dean said, “We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Balçova Municipality for this opportunity. This year’s concept for both the exhibition and the fashion show is ‘Generation D’. We, as the Faculty, would like to express our strength in raising new generation fashion designers. Prospective designers, who graduate from five departments within the Faculty, begin to work as the new professionals of the design industry, which is becoming more and more important in this era. This year almost 200 students are graduating from the Faculty. We will be hosting the managers of the World Design Organization at the University at the end of this month as well.”
‘80 pieces 21 students’
Prof. Dr. Bulgun stated that the students, in addition to receiving theoretical and practical courses, get a chance to enrich their point of view by means of various different activities throughout their four-year study. She said that 21 students prepared an 80-piece collection of ready-to-wear clothing for the fashion show. “Students prepared for their 2018 graduation project under the title of “New Romantic”. Fourth year students prepared for the fashion show in design studio course under the guidance of Lecturers Dr. Arzu Vuruşkan Gündoğan and Jörn Fröhlich. 2018-fashion is a combination of powerful romantic collections celebrating combination of styles from different cultures and different times. Third year students prepared for the fashion show in design studio course under the guidance of Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Şölen Kipöz. Their collection, fashion tales, consist of denim and anti-denim fabrics. Akif Yörük choreographed the fashion show. And our very own students modeled the collection on the runway,” said the Prof. Dr. Bulgun.
