STUDENT SATISFACTION AT IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) ranked 21st in overall student satisfaction among 172 universities and ranked 12th among 63 foundation universities across Turkey. The 2018 results of “Turkey’s University Satisfaction Survey”, held by the University Assessment & Research Laboratory, have been announced. The survey conducted by collecting data from more than 26,000 students studying at 172 universities comprising 109 state and 63 foundation universities reveals the top universities by “student’s level of satisfaction”. Student answers were based on six evaluation criteria such as “Satisfaction with Learning Experience”, “Satisfaction with Campus Life”, “Academic Support and Interest”, “Satisfaction with the Institution’s Management and Operation”, “Learning Opportunities and Richness of Resources” and “Personal Development and Career Support”. Izmir University of Economics ranked in the A and A+ group, which is known as the highest satisfaction level.
IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Can Muğan stated that the University focused on sharing the best teaching methods with students. The Rector said, “We are offering an education that eases the lives of our students. Their satisfaction allows them to prepare better for science and business world. Our academic education progresses with student satisfaction and our achievements increase. We have made improvements in course registration and course scheduling procedures. We have equipped the entire campus with smart systems. There are 245 smart classrooms. We conduct regular seminars with faculty members to share the best education methods. We are renewing our education program to keep up with the changing conditions and to lead the way”.
'Teaching new generation with technology'
Prof. Dr. Muğan reported that at IUE they adopted Smart Campus, a technology supported education approach, pursuant to the University’s strategic goal of perfectionism in education. The Rector stated the following:
"We use Blackboard Learn – Learning Management System, Panopto Video – Course Registration Software, Smart Projector and Smart Attendance System within our Smart Campus. Blackboard Learn is an application for online teaching, learning, community building, and knowledge sharing. It allows faculty members to plan and design both in-class activities and activities outside the class. Blackboard Learn allows an online communication between faculty members and students. It allows faculty members to share teaching materials with students, and design assignments and exams. Students on the other hand use Blackboard Learn to have access to course materials anytime from wherever they want. They can communicate with their teachers and other students at interactive environments such as forums, blogs, and discussion panels. In this respect, Blackboard is being used efficiently as a supporter in face-to-face teaching environments and as a content provider in distance learning programs."
