VOLUNTEER AMBASSADORS OF FASHION TO REPRESENT IZMIR ABROAD
International students come to Izmir for fashion design education and prepare to launch their own brands in their countries. Tasneem El Shabasy from Egypt and Ebru Dulak of Turkish origin from Germany, students of IUE Fashion and Textile Design, want to hail by launching their own brands and designs in their countries.
Tasneem El Shabasy said she had looked into many universities for her education in fashion and decided to study in the Department of Fashion and Textile Design at Izmir University of Economics and added, “I am from Egypt. The education here in Turkey fosters an open-mind; you do not focus on the courses only but you also learn the practice. You gain experience, which helps you to start your own business. You create collections and take part in fashion weeks with your own collections. I graduated this year; I will go back to my country and create my own brand there. This way, I will design to draw women. I do not only focus on today’s fashion, but I aim to design clothes that go beyond time. I want both Egyptian women and other women to wear my designs.
‘Expert Power of Design in Germany and Europe’
Stating that she has come from Germany, Ebru Dulak said that she had taken courses in the United States for a year but then moved to Izmir when she heard of Izmir University of Economics. Dulak said, “I learned a lot here. Fashion design is more advanced in Turkey than in Germany, which is why I wanted to study here. I aim to create my own brand. I want to be an expert in my field in Germany and in Europe with my own brand.”
‘Being a Professional while Studying’
Prof. Dr. Elvan Özkavruk Adanır, the Head of Fashion and Textile Design at Izmir University of Economics, said students receive their education at an international level and that international students choose to study at IUE as well. Prof. Dr. Adanır said, “Not only Turkish students but also international students from such countries as Egypt, Germany, and Ukraine prefer our university through Erasmus exchange program or to pursue their entire education here. With our international academic staff, we offer an international education. The training that the students receive here is not just theoretical. Our students meet with the movers and shakers of the fashion sector. They prepare their own collections. Their professional life begin during their university years.”
