‘Online event’ series on Campus Izmir
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) moved the Campus Izmir Chats to an online platform. The event was started 3 months ago in order to bring experts in different fields such as law, education, health, economics, together with students and graduates. The series of events will continue until May 27 with the participation of a different guest on Wednesdays via Blackboard Collaborate. The series, which address the impact of coronavirus on our lives in all aspects, and provide answers to the questions of the audience, will also be broadcasted live on IUE’s YouTube account. Prof. Coşkun Küçüközmen, Lecturer at IUE Department of International Trade and Finance, and Assoc. Prof. Alp Limoncuoğlu, Vice Dean of IUE Faculty of Law, were the first guests of the first “Online Seminar Series” titled event out of 8 events organized by IUE Graduate School.
Prof. Küçüközmen, who gave information about “The future of jobs and professions” pointed out that data analysis and data visualization would come to the fore among the future professions.
“INNOVATIVE JOB IDEAS”
Prof. Küçüközmen, stated that the virus knew no bounds, and rather than an economic or finance-based crisis, the whole world was experiencing a very serios health crisis. “For its future, our country must actively take part in the ‘One Generation One Road Project’, known as the modern Silk Road of China, due to this difficult period we are going through because of the coronavirus. None of the countries in the region has the hinterland our ports have,” said Prof. Küçüközmen and stated that the success of enterprises was the success of its workers. “We need to present a new job idea innovatively. Those, who can easily adapt to the new generation technology, will find jobs easier. We need to adapt to this order,” said Prof. Küçüközmen.
“COULD BE CONSIDERED A WORK ACCIDENT”
Assoc. Prof. Limoncuoğlu, who talked about the “Impact of Covid-19 on work life”, said that any accident to be considered a work accident during this period, where people work from home, created problems in reality. Assoc. Prof. Limoncuoğlu stated that working from home became sort of an obligation with the coronavirus outbreak. “Working from home was opted for some line of work practically. Due to the outbreak, business organization infrastructure was prepared, and many people started to work from home. Those, who work from home with the technological background, continue to work full-time if they are full-time employees, and work part-time if they are part-time employees. The employer has to pay the employee under the same terms,” said Asst. Prof. Limoncuoğlu and pointed that the employer would not be allowed to make any cuts on wages, since when working from home, ‘home’ would be considered a workplace.
HERE IS THE ONLINE SEMINAR SCHEDULE
On April 22, Asst. Prof. Yasemin Meral Öğütçü from Department of Psychology, will deliver a speech titled, “The coronavirus anxiety and uncertainty: how are we going to cope with it then?”. On April 29, Prof. Mehmet Gençer from Department of Business will deliver “Digital Transformation” titled speech, and on May 6, Prof. Ayla Oğuş Binatlı from Department of Economics will talk about the “Global Economic Growth After the Outbreak”. Assoc. Prof. Muhittin Hakan Demir, Head of Department of Logistics Management, will talk about “Understanding the possible effects of COVID-19 on chain supply” on May 13, Asst. Prof. Zeynep Ertekin from Department of Business will talk about “Sustainable Marketing” on May 20, Prof. Şükrü Özen from Department of Business will talk about the “Job system in Turkey” on May 27. And on March 31, Prof. Jülide Kesken from Department of Business, delivered “Crisis Period Strategies” titled speech to the members of Izmir Chamber of Commerce, where she addressed the measures to be taken by the companies in details.
