Prof. İsmihan Bayramoğlu, Dean of Faculty of Arts and Science, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), has participated as a guest speaker at an international forum on distance education titled, “New Opportunities and Contemporary Approaches” held by the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC). Academics from the leading universities in Germany, Canada, USA, England, and Turkey shared their knowledge and experience on distance education at the online forum moderated by UNEC Rector Prof. Adalat Muradov. The forum, to which the Azerbaijan media showed great interest in, was broadcast live on YouTube and Facebook. In the forum, it has been reported that there have been fundamental changes in the education system after the COVID-19 pandemic, and that distance education was the only education model that did not have an alternative.
Prof. İsmihan Bayramoğlu, Dean of IUE Faculty of Arts and Science, said, “Throughout the history, many global outbreaks occurred at different times, and many people lost their lives. The humankind came up with inventions against these outbreaks and made a breakthrough each time. We know how the plague outbreak affected the Renaissance in the Medieval Age. The COVID-19 outbreak showed that the mankind would be up against more serious threats from now on, that countries and nations need to learn to unite together to fight against such threats, and the importance of science and technology. We can also say that this global outbreak facilitated the rapid development of digital technologies. Distance education became an outlet worldwide.” Prof. Bayramoğlu also pointed that Izmir University of Economics adapted to the distance education quickly and became one of the successful universities during this period thanks to its strong technological structure and qualified teaching staff.
