28 medals for IUE Sailing Team

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Sailing Team came in third in the Campus Cup held in Marmaris this year, where university students fiercely competed. The total number of trophies and medals of the IUE Sailing Team, which has made a name for itself by achieving many successes throughout Turkey and Izmir since its establishment in 2009, has reached 28.

15 teams competed in the final of the Campus Cup, organized by Marmaris International Yacht Club, which was a scene of great excitement. IUE team of 7, consisting of IUE students Umur Doğuş Onat, Seher Arı, Yağmur Ercan, Melis Aydın, Begümnur Küçükcan, Oğulcan Taşlı and Nehir Hakverdi, struggled to complete the determined route in the first place. IUE Sailing Team,  who also represented the Aegean Region, in the Campus Cup, where teams from universities from different regions of Turkey participated, came in third and won the medal. The IUE Sailing Team, who won 3 first places in total in Jimmy Key Sailing Races, one of the most important organizations among universities, held in 2019 before the pandemic, continued their success this year as well.

IUE Sports Coordinator, Murat Palalı said that they lead students towards sports branches that they are interested in and feel best about. Emphasizing that sports have a positive effect on young people in every sense, and it also paves the way for them to be academically successful, Palalı said, “As a university, we care about taking part in every field of sports. We operate in many fields of sports, including American football, basketball, motor sports, and surfing. As a university, we encourage our students to engage in sports. This is one of the distinguishing features of our university. We congratulate the sailing team and believe that they will make us proud by winning new cups and medals in the upcoming period.”
