She achieved her childhood dream at university

Elif Tanınmış (26) from Izmir turned her childhood dream of being a theater actress into reality while she was studying at university. After enrolling to Department of Public Relations and Advertising, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) in 2014, Tanınmış started her theater education at the New York Sanat Akademi (Art Academy) and took the first step into the art life of her dreams. Tanınmış, who successfully carried out both her undergraduate and theater education, soon made a difference with her talent and went on the stage. Having studied at the academy for 4 years and met with the audience in many plays such as 'Kanlı Nigar', 'Bana bir şeyler oluyor' and ‘İki efendinin uşağı’ during this time, Tanınmış has also taken action to reach children and young people who want to be theater actors like herself.

THEY FOUNDED A THEATER

Elif Tanınmış and her friends from the academy founded the Tiyatro Ansambl in 2019. Tanınmış, who is responsible for the communication of Tiyatro Ansambl and New York Sanat Akademi, continues to act on the stage and makes an effort for the theater to reach large audiences. Tanınmış, who is also studying for a master's degree in marketing communications at IUE, said, "My biggest goal is to increase interest in theater from an early age, thus laying the groundwork for the discovery of new talents.”

IT WAS A FEELING WITHIN ME

Stating that the stage is where she feels the most free and that she would never give up on this passion, Tanınmış said, “My interest in theater didn't start by seeing someone or being inspired by something. I can say that it was a spontaneous feeling that came from my childhood. I was interested in theater since elementary school, but somehow I could not find the opportunity to get an education and steer myself in this direction. But no matter what, I eagerly awaited the day when I would step into the theater. After enrolling to Izmir University of Economics, I thought that it was time for me to start acting in theater. Because in middle school and high school, my family always prioritized academic education. However, the situation changed when I entered the university.”

THEATER MEANS FREEDOM AND LOVE

Tanınmış continued as follows: “It is easy to achieve success when you do a job you love. I understood this very clearly on the theater stage. The New York Sanat Akademi, which I started at university, changed my life in every sense. Meeting Onur Atacan, the General Art Director of the Academy, has been one of my greatest fortunes. He guided me in the right direction, he helped me gain vision. I worked hard and in a short time I proved myself in the theater. Theater means freedom and love to me. I am glad that I started stage acting, and that I did not give up my passion for theater.”

NEW TALENTS MUST BE FOUND

Pointing out that she started her master's degree after graduating from IUE Department of Public Relations and Advertising, Tanınmış said, “The education I received during my university period has added a lot to me. I was always happy at IUE. And, I decided to continue my master's degree at Izmir University of Economics. I use the knowledge and experience I gained at my university for the Tiyatro Ansambl. I am both acting and working as a communication manager there. It is an indescribable feeling for me to combine my work life and my favorite thing, the theater. Through Tiyatro Ansambl and New York Sanat Akademi, I aim to reach especially children and young people and to find new talents for the theater. All my future goals are towards this.”

Stating that the play ‘Sizi Tanıyorum’, scripted and directed by Onur Atacan, will be on stage at the Nazım Hikmet Cultural Center in Konak on Saturday, January 29, at 20.30, Tanınmış invited the people of Izmir to the play.
