Campus doors will open for children with leukemia

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) collaborated with LOSEV (Children with Leukemia Health and Education Foundation), which has been working for 24 years, to support children and adults who are being treated for leukemia and cancer, and to raise awareness of the disease throughout the society. Booths will be set up on campus and joint projects will be carried out with the participation of university students within the scope of the protocol signed by IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar and LOSEV Izmir Provincial Coordinator Ayça Nilüfer Aykar. Awareness-raising seminars on healthy nutrition and cancer will be held with the support of academics from IUE. Various activities will be held on campus throughout the year to increase the morale and motivation of sick children especially.

The IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar, Prof. Dr. Filiz Öğce, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. Sevinç İnan, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Özgür İnandım, Director of Health, Culture and Sports, Ayça Nilüfer Aykar, LOSEV Izmir Provincial Coordinator, Berrin Atalan, Institutional Communications Coordinator, Jülide Arifoğlu, Social Services Coordinator, and Tuğçe Gücüyener, Public Relations Director, attended the protocol signing ceremony regarding the cooperation between Izmir University of Economics and LOSEV that was held at the Board of Trustees Hall.

WE ENCOURAGE THE YOUTH

Stating that as the University, they attach great importance to social responsibility projects and encourage their students to take part in these projects, Prof. Dr. Aşkar said, “LOSEV has carried out many valuable work and pioneering projects for both sick children and adults. We, as Izmir University of Economics, wanted to open the doors of our campus and show that we stand by LOSEV and support their work. I think that this cooperation is very important in terms of directing our students to social responsibility projects and increasing the awareness of them on an important issue such as cancer.”

LOSEV Izmir Provincial Coordinator Ayça Nilüfer Aykar thanked Izmir University of Economics for their support and she said, “The incidence of cancer cases has unfortunately increased throughout our country in recent years. As LOSEV, we support not only children, but also adults with leukemia and cancer. While reaching patients and trying to solve their problems, we derive our greatest strength from the volunteers and the institutions that support us. We were very happy to add Izmir University of Economics to the institutions we cooperate with. I sincerely believe that we will achieve remarkable and good projects throughout the year thanks to the union of forces.”
