IUE library welcomes young visitors

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Children's University Research and Application Center Beyaz Köşk Kindergarten introduced its 34 students to the library by organizing a special event within the scope of the ‘Library Week’ celebrated between the dates of March 27 and April 2 this year. The children who came to the library on campus, just like university students, went over the books appropriate for their age group with their teachers and asked what they were curious about. The children, who listened attentively to the presentations of the teachers about the books, were gifted bookmarks designed with cartoon characters, flowers and animals.

THEY BOTH HAD FUN AND INFORMATION

Lecturer Yasemin Özgün, Vice Director of IUE Children's University Research and Application Center, said that the library visit, which lasted about 1 hour, was very useful for the development of students. Pointing out the importance of introducing children to books at an early age, even though they cannot read and write yet, Özgün said, “We have prepared a special program for the development of our children within the scope of the Library Week, which is celebrated for the 59^th time this year. To this purpose, we wanted to introduce our children to the library located on the campus of Izmir University of Economics. We created a special area in the library and brought books with various shapes and images appropriate for the age group of children. We went over the books with children. During the event, the children had a lot of fun and experienced a sweet excitement.”

IT SET A GOOD EXAMPLE

Stating that they will continue to organize various activities throughout the year as a kindergarten, Özgün said, “The knowledge and habits that children will acquire at kindergarten age are of great importance for their healthy development. We must provide an environment where children will develop their self-confidence, enjoy learning, and look forward to coming to school. Acting with this awareness, we make our plans and work in detail with the support of all relevant units at the University. The event we held at the library was a good example of this.”

CHILDREN BETWEEN 3-6 YEARS

Beyaz Köşk Kindergarten, which is affiliated with Izmir University of Economics, where children aged 3-6 receive education, is located in the old Izmir Konağı building across from the campus. The kindergarten, where a full-time psychologist and teachers who are experts in their fields work, aims to ensure a healthy development of children both physically and socially with workshops, activities and trainings prepared by a professional team.
