They both worked and developed projects
Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Business worked for 12 weeks in 8 institutions within the scope of the ‘Applied Administrative Sciences Skills Development’ course and developed projects that will increase the efficiency of companies. 14 students, who worked in well-established institutions such as BorgWarner, DB Schenker Arkas, Deloitte, Göztepe Sports Club, HPag Lloyd, Hugo Boss, Izmir Chamber of Commerce and KPMG, presented their projects on campus at the program attended by the authorities. Three IUE students had the opportunity to start their careers before graduating by receiving job offers from the companies they worked for.
During their work, the students took part in projects such as the budget projections of companies, the integration of financial technologies into the financial affairs department, the methods of controlling cash and cash equivalents, and the supplier selection processes in purchasing platforms. Having gained experience in the operational processes of companies, IUE students put forward projects and ideas that will increase productivity and business performance in their departments. The students, who explained their projects one by one, had the opportunity to develop themselves, to demonstrate the theoretical knowledge they learned in practice, and to establish a business network with experience before graduating.
THEY USED THE OPPORTUNITY VERY WELL
Delivering the opening speech of the end-of-semester event where the students presented their projects, IUE Faculty of Business Dean Prof. Dr. Burcu Güneri Çangarlı said that they implemented a good example of cooperation between the business world and the university. Prof. Dr. Burcu Güneri Çangarlı said, “We train students to meet the demands of the sector and to meet the qualified workforce. The high employment rate of our graduates and the positive feedback we receive from companies are proof that we are quite successful at this point. Another secret of our success as a faculty is that we bring students together with the business world before they graduate. In this way, we offer them the opportunity to show and exhibit their own potential and the privileged features that distinguish them from their peers. We did this as part of the lesson. Our students made the most of this opportunity. The University has implemented CampusIzmir, the first model of university-city integration in Turkey. With this model, we see entire Izmir as our campus, and the institutions and companies that add strength to our region as our natural partners. We trust all our students and alumni and we are proud of them.”
ATTRACTED THE ATTENTION OF COMPANIES AS WELL
Coordinating the ‘Applied Administrative Sciences Skills Development’ course on behalf of the Faculty of Business Administration this semester, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Işık Özge Yumurtacı Hüseyinoğlu stated that the successful performances of the students also attracted the attention of the companies. Yumurtacı Hüseyinoğlu said, “Students, who took the course, went to companies for 12 weeks. They worked there at least two and a half days a week. They got to know the operation in companies, professional business life. At the same time, they had the opportunity to develop themselves and understand how what they learned was applied in practice. They did not do perform internship, in a sense, they fulfilled a task they had to do within the scope of the course. I am proud to say that 3 of our students had the opportunity to start their careers without graduating by receiving job offers from the companies they worked for within the scope of the course. We congratulate all students who worked in companies and wish them continued success.”
