185 people received ‘postgraduate’ diplomas

185 students who successfully completed their master's and doctorate degrees at Izmir University of Economics (IUE) received their diplomas with a graduation ceremony full of enthusiasm and excitement. The students, who were proud to graduate by gaining expertise in the fields they want to pursue a career in, threw their caps in the air and enjoyed their happiness to the fullest.

The graduation ceremony for a total of 185 students, including 178 masters and 7 doctoral students, was held at the Ceremony Field on IUE campus. IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Hakan Abacıoğlu, Director of the Graduate School Prof. Dr. Mehmet Efe Biresselioğlu, Vice President of the Izmir Chamber of Commerce Assembly, Mehmet Tahir Özdemir, and academics and families attended the ceremony. The students, who graduated on the 100^th anniversary of the Republic by receiving their diplomas they had dreamed of for a long time, shared their happiness with their relatives and their professors. Some of the graduates came to the ceremony with their spouses and children, creating a warm environment.

KNOWLEDGEABLE, CRITICAL THINKING YOUTH

Stating that there is a need for individuals who are knowledgeable, think critically, solve problems and work together for a sustainable world, IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Hakan Abacıoğlu said, “Universities are institutions that produce, preserve and disseminate the knowledge necessary for the economic and social development of societies. In other words, it can be said that the distinctive element that makes a university a university is ‘producing knowledge’. However, if knowledge production is not realized on the basis of universal academic values, the university may lose the trust of the society and its reason for existence. Protecting values is a moral responsibility. I know that you will do so. Graduate education is one of the most important steps in the process of producing academic knowledge. Therefore, we cannot talk about a university without graduate education. The diplomas you receive today are also the badges of realization of our reason for existence as a university. I thank you very much for giving meaning and honor to our existence.”

REACHES DEEP LIKE THE ROOTS OF A TREE

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Efe Biresselioğlu, Director of IUE Graduate School, stated that they have great confidence in their graduates and he said, “Undergraduate education is like the moment the seed is planted. You are equipped with basic knowledge and skills, but the real growth process begins in graduate education. During this process, you learn new information, conduct research, solve problems and improve yourself. As you grow, knowledge reaches deeper, like the roots of a tree. Your curiosity to learn increases. Your trunk thickens with scientific articles, projects and theses. Your branches are your areas of specialization and your fruits are your contributions to our country and the world. In this respect, our greatest expectation from you is that you accept science and knowledge as your beacon and work diligently and devotedly both for yourselves and for Turkey, which is celebrating the 100^th anniversary of the Republic.”
