Champion in basketball ‘Izmir University of Economics’

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) men's basketball team completed the Izmir Regional Competitions, in which 10 universities participated this year, as the champion. Performing an outstanding struggle against stronger opponents, Izmir University of Economics was entitled to play a promotion match with other regional champions to reach the Super League, the highest league among universities.

Izmir University of Economics played against Izmir Katip Çelebi University in the championship game of the Regional Competitions. IUE, which demonstrated its effective game on the court with the start of the match, completed the first period 19-12 and the first half 30-18 ahead.

GREAT EXCITEMENT IN THE LAST QUARTER

Showing an exemplary team effort, IUE athletes finished the third quarter 50-38 ahead. In the last period of great excitement, even though the gap closed a bit, Izmir University of Economics did not give up the championship and left the court 60-56 victorious.

With the final whistle of the match, IUE students enjoyed the championship to the fullest. The students ran to their friends who came to support them in the stands and celebrated together.

WE COMPLETELY DESERVED IT

Murat Palalı, IUE Sports Coordinator, emphasized that their confidence in the basketball team was not in vain and said, “Our team set an example with its outstanding struggle, team spirit and sportsmanship throughout the tournament and completely deserved the championship. We believed that our team would be the champion from the very first day we came to the tournament. All team players did their best to represent our University in the best way possible. The biggest share of the success belongs to them. We are proud of all of them, we are very lucky to have such students as a University. We will continue our efforts to achieve new successes in different branches."
