It came from the 19th century, when Irish immigrants in America were seen as hardworking but often stuck in the worst jobs. The "luck" was basically a sarcastic jab, saying they had no luck at all, just hardship. So yeah, anyone who's read a history book gives that exact side eye when they hear it.</p>
