Arrowsmith - don't want to miss a thing
I bet most people don't even know it was the lead track written for a movie when it came out.
Don’t you mean “fletcher”?

The Rose by Bette Midler- as a lot of people probably don’t even know it was a movie also.

Joel Schumacher of all people. To follow Tim Burton. That's like hiring Dean Koontz to finish George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series (Game of Thrones), or to pick up an unfinished Neil Gaiman series.
Ironically it’s Tim Burtons fault it went to Schumacher after his self indulgence with Returns. If he’d matched the tone of the 1989 movie (wildly successful) it could easily have been another hit.
That whole situation leads me to the unpopular opinion that the 1989 Batman was as good as it was because of Burton, yes, but importantly the other creatives and producers.

I will always love you
More popular than both the movies it featured in!

Smash Mouth - All Star. It’s so popular from Shrek that most people forget (or never knew) that it started in Mystery Men.
My kids saw Shrek! not too long ago and got into that song. So I put the video from YouTube up for them and did a double take because I had completely forgotten that the video itself is a tie-in to Mystery Men (which is severely underrated imo)

The graduate soundtrack by Simon and Garfunkel. Mrs. Robinson was a work in progress and adapted to fit the movie, and sound of silence, and Scarborough fair are classics of the period and folk rock pillars of the century.
Interestingly, this was one of if not really the first time popular, contemporary artists had their music featured in a film. Prior, scoring a film was the purview of someone with a music phd. Talk about the beginning of sea change for the industry.

Mystery Men. It’s an ensemble cast supe comedy from the 90s.
And the movie was both surprisingly good and ahead of its time as a superhero critique.

I can dig it.

Came here to say this.
(recently I learned that the song is much older)

As good as the 1995 movie was, and it was good, the

Flagpole Sitta by Harvey Danger from the trailers for the movie Disturbing Behavior.
Also obligatory shout out about how they are a criminally underrated band and their albums are fucking great if you like clever, sarcastic indie rock.

A bit off from the question, but "the queen of the damned" soundtrack is the most fire soundtrack from any movie, ever.
