So they built a secret cave inside the Rock and picked six men, including a surgeon, to be sealed inside it if the worst happened. They'd stay down there for up to seven years, reporting enemy ship movements by radio. The plan never actually had to be used, and the cave stayed hidden until it was found in 1997.
